What is Maundy Thursday?
What is Maundy Thursday? Maundy Thursday (pronounced like “mohn-di,” rhymes with “blondie”) is the day that commemorates Christ’s last meal (or Last Supper) with his disciples. It was on this Thursday that He and the twelve disciples observed the traditional Jewish Passover meal together.Maundy Thursday Meaning
Maundy Thursday is recognized as a holy day of Christianity. Maundy Thursday, meaning Commandment Thursday, gets its name from the Latin word mandatum (or mandate, translated as commandment), which is the first word in the Latin translation of Christ’s words in John 13:34. This is the day that Jesus gave his followers a new commandment–a new mandate to love.
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. (John 13:34-35)
This whole week is very special, and every year it is a time to stop and reflect on what Christ did for us. He didn't have to go to the cross; He didn't have to suffer the torment, but He did, and for what reason.......................Me - Us.
Good morning to all. Hope your week has been good so far and the remainder will be the same.
Church last night for me, and Jim went with me. He has missed 3 weeks and felt like he could make it, and did just fine. We had a good attendance even though it is spring break for the local schools and many families are out of town, etc. We had visitors too, for which we are always thankful.
Laundry and possibly grocery shopping for us today. Jim is working on his bookkeeping and tax info, and I am still on my second cup of coffee. Slow start, but the sun is shining and the temps are to get warmer, so should be a good day. Also Jesse has a scrimmage tee ball game and we will go enjoy the fun tonight.
We live and die; Christ died and lived!

I knew that about Thursday but had forgotten the word maundy. Thank you. A great post.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to get my groceries today and bake my carrot cake tomorrow evening. Due to some scheduling problems with our girls, we have to have our Easter dinner on Saturday.
I hope you have a blessed Easter.
Hi Linda! I'm a little late checking in - on my lunch time, because I may not have access again tonight (and my morning was a bit hectic). I also posted about Maundy Thursday. This is a Holy time for Christians. Glad Jim felt like going to church with you last night! Enjoy watching Jesse play tonight!! The little ones always make you laugh!
ReplyDeleteIt's great Jim could get out and attend church. It has been a beautiful sunny day here today. I hope you have a Happy Easter weekend.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, blessed Easter sweet Linda. Hugs, Maggie
