THIS AND THAT!

1)  VBS had a total of over $7,000.00 raised this week, to go toward the youth mission trip to Guyana.  Praise the Lord.  The boys lost and their captain got 'slimmed' big time!

2)  I bought and ate my very first gelato today.  I couldn't tell a lot of difference in it and ice cream....maybe I got a cheap brand or something, but the price isn't worth the difference to me.

3)  Jim - There is so much to say and I am just too worn down to type it.  Needless to say, I need your prayers.

4)  I am going to attempt to make some old fashioned tea cakes today.  Need a project to keep my mind and body going.  Have you ever made them and if so, is there a trick or are they as easy as they look?

Grandma's Old Fashioned Tea Cakes Recipe

5)  Laundry done, kitchen clean, porch straightened and blown off, so guess I will close, get some breakfast going, and then make my cookies and sit on the porch,  read and eat them this afternoon!

  2. I'm still here... praying the Lord will give you strength. And I'm still praying for Jim.
Wow! The kids raised that much money! That's super.
I've heard of tea cakes but never searched for the recipe until now. I looked on allrecipes.com and they sound like another version of sugar cookies but with nutmeg. On that web site there's lots of comments from women/men who talk about their tips and additions they've made to the original recipe. That's where I find a lot of info. They do sound so good. Enjoy your's.
Hope you have a good day, my friend. I'm thinking of you. ♥ God bless you both.

  3. Carol is right. AllRecipes.com is a great website for recipes and tips. I've never made tea cakes. Let us know how yours turn out, please!

Amazing that the kids raised so much money for the mission trip! Wonderful commitment on their part! What is it about "slime" that kids love so much? LOL

Prayers continue for Jim (and you!).

We haven't found any gelato here that is as good as what we had in Italy, but I guess that is to be expected. The gelato bar at Mazzaro's comes very close. Gelato is custard based (eggs), rather than creme based. It should taste richer and have a little different texture (smoother). The brand you show here is the most expensive we can buy at Publix - we don't buy it!! Tristan's mom loves that brand, but they can afford to splurge on it when they want to.

I wish you a restful and pleasant weekend, dear friend!! Love & hugs.

    1. Terri, when I looked up gelato to see what the difference was, it said more milk than cream. It is smooth for sure. I bet the real stuff in Italy would be wonderful. Hope your weekend is a good one too. Hugs.

  4. I have never tried gelato...maybe I should wait until I go to Italy....just like I had my first fish and chips sitting in London some years ago. Hope things continue to improve for you...I can imagine it is very difficult and heart breaking...keep your chin up.

    1. Thank you Ruth....it is probably more mental and emotional than physical, but all 3 are hard.

  5. I like gelato a lot, but only when it's hand scooped. I think the container gelato tastes pretty much just like ice cream. I am lucky and there are a number of gelato stores in my neighborhood.

  6. FANTASTIC offering amount! They do the boy-girl contest here, too. This year the boys won but usually it is the girls.
Downtown Chattanooga is great. It has continued to improve over the years. Pino Gelato used to have a shop on Broad but am not sure if they do anymore. Their Gelato was Great. The Gelato at Opryland Hotel is wonderful, too.
