HOW LONG DO THINGS LAST?

Are fairy villages popular in your area?  I had never heard of them until my new neighbor across the street has started making one and I asked her about it.  She has 4 huge maple trees in her front yard and she chose one to make her fairy village.   She has little houses on the ground and then she is making what looks like a door on the tree.....a different type of yard art and it is cute.  The picture isn't hers but will be similar when finished.
Can you believe this year is half over?  Every year I say the same things.....can't believe it is summer, can't believe it is winter, why are the days flying by?  As a child the summers were looked forward to, as was it exciting when school was out and you were free to play, swim or do whatever made you happy.  Now, I shake my head and say 'how did we get to June?'  Seems yesterday was Christmas, I blinked and it was hot and summer.  Slow down life.
I had a special blessing at church this weekend and am not sure if you will understand it, but here goes................A lady that rides one of our buses started coming to church about a month ago.  One of the drivers brought her to me and asked if she could sit with me, and of course I said she could and welcomed her.  We talked a bit and she told me about her family, and about what we both enjoyed, etc.  She is a very unusual lady, but nevertheless, every time she comes back, she comes straight to me and sits with me.
Yesterday it was the same.  The hymnals are on the back of the pews and I noticed there was a picture in the one in front of me.....a picture made with construction paper, cut out pictures (on both sides) and I said, oh someone left this......she said, 'I made it for you.  You told me you loved mountains and I remembered that and made a picture for you.'
This is a 30 year old woman, with 7 seven children, and she took the time to remember our conversation and made something to note that.  It touched my heart and I couldn't thank her enough.  Some way, somehow, I have gained her trust and friendship and I am so thankful.

Small things mean more than big things in life.

I finally got Jim to use the walker instead of a cane and it is working so much better.  At least when he loses his balance, he has two sides to cling to and hopefully he wont be falling again any time soon.  My 'nurse mode' has kicked in big time!  He teases me about that too, and it brings a smile to both of us.

James 4:14----
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.
For what is your life?
It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time,
and then vanisheth away."

  2. This blog touched me in so many ways, Linda.
I'm glad that your new-found friend feels comfortable and happy when she is with you. That is a gift from you to her...and from her to you. And for her to take the time to make you such a sweet gift is priceless. Yes, she is a good listener, and she also is a kind woman. May God bless her immensely.
I'm glad that Jim is using the walker. Tell him, that my Mama couldn't walk without hers for several weeks. We thought she would be using it forever. But...she continued doing the leg exercises from her chair that the doctor told her to do when she was in the hospital...she was relentless with doing them. They were simple ones....but after a period of time, she has been able to put the walker aside, put her cane aside, and she walks unaided now. I would have never believed it was possible...but it is. She will be 82 on her birthday, has congestive heart failure, and weighs 85 pounds. She is a go-getter!! Just telling you and Jim so that you will know that all things are possible. Continued hugs and prayers for you both.
I'm praying for both of you...
    Love,
    Jackie

  4. The fairy village is cute. I have seen one around here somewhere.. can't remember right now what part of town it's in.
I love what your 'new friend' gave you. She wanted some way to thank you for your friendship and this is the only thing she could think of..... something made with her own hands. What a blessing.
It's hard for a person to start attending a new church. Each Sunday we can only hope that just one more person will acknowledge our presence.

  5. Carol, I wish you lived here....you would be welcome and smothered with love and friendship, you would be delighted. I worship with the sweetest group of people.....and I pray more people find out what an asset you and your hubby would be to that church, and soon.

  7. Linda, how wonderful that you connected with the woman in your church. You have made a difference in her life. How awesome. The fairy village is a cute idea! When your neighbor finishes, please post a photo (if she won't mind!). Prayers continue for you and Jim. I'm glad he has finally listened to his chief nurse, and is using the walker. It should make a huge difference! Love & hugs.

  9. I am so thankful your husband is using the walker. Between orders from his private nurse - - and his little tumble the other night, he has learned a lesson.
That is so sweet about your picture. Things like that are a hug from God.
The fairy villages remind me of a childhood friend who said fairies lived in trees - - you just had to know where their door was and knock on it. If they knew you, you could come in and visit. We were intrigued by that when we were young.
