We are living at a time when more churches considered fundamental are increasingly driven less by doctrine. It has become very difficult to keep the attention of a society pumped up by entertainment and excitement. Plain old down to earth Bible teaching is boring to many of this generation. There are more broken homes, hearts, minds, and lives than ever in history.
There is an attack on the Bible and an attempt to undermine Biblical Christianity. The truth still stands and the fact is still clear that the only cure for broken homes, broken hearts, broken lives, and broken minds is a visitation of God in our lives.
He is in control as much in the twenty first Century as He was in the beginning of time. God is still as Holy as He was when the fire of judgment fell on Sodom and Gomorrah.
2 Timothy 4:1-8
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
This was very good for thought for me this morning, and sad to say, very true.
Awesome post this morning, Linda! I agree that some churches are trying to do more entertaining and less ministering. Some of these strip mall mega churches have rock bands and full blown light shows going on during their service. Call me old fashion but I believe worship should not sacred and not done in a circus environment. Have a great day, Linda!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Kris. I think the contemporary churches are trying to draw young people and I understand the theory, but the method isnt something that needs to be done. The circus as you say, may draw them in, but what are they learning about God and His ways. He didnt have to have all that to draw people unto Him. I am proud to be 'old fashioned'.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Thank you. I think I needed that. It is so very true. I've personally watched those churches that tickle the ears, make people feel good, and have a Starbucks in the lobby. Nope!
ReplyDeleteGive me old fashion Bible preaching, straight from God's Word. I don't want man's interpretation either. The Word is THE WORD! ♥
So true!
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I, too, like "old fashioned" worship.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite verses on a topic that is very close to my heart. I too am 'old fashioned' and cling to traditional worship. Our own local church seems to be getting that foot in the door with a more modern plan to reach the young people...it scares me and as the organist, I'm not sure how this is going to affect me.
