GOOD AND BAD NEWS!

Jim update:  The bad news first to get it out of the way.  There is not a lot that can be done to improve Jim's quality of life, due to age, and general health factors.

The good news is that the physical therapist gave us some really good exercises that he can do sitting down.  He definitely needs to have a wheelchair to use not only in the house, but when transporting to dr. appointments, etc., and one has been ordered.  The RN that admitted him before the PT arrived is doing all she can to help us with the little things......We are going forward with a good attitude.  Jim has lost a total of 45 pounds since January and they do not want him to lose more.  We discussed his eating habits, and the salt issue(everything and I do mean everything, even ice cream, that he eats is tooooo salty to him and no one knows why).  Additional Ensure or Boost would be good for him, of which we are already using.  Jim has atrial fibrillation and takes Coumadin and has to have a blood test every month to make sure things are in line, and the Home Health Agency will be doing that as long as they are coming here and we wont have to go to lab for that.  That makes it easier on me!  We were both so tired after all that, and went to bed early last night.

Moving on.  See the bicycles above?  We now have those all over downtown for rent.  Does your city have them?  They seem to have been a hit as I see lots more people in the downtown area using a bike.  Our downtown area is very bike friendly and there is a lot to see and do and easy to get to from a bike.

My daughter and her family are winding up their vacation at Universal in Orlando, Fla today.  Her husband is the CFO at a hospital here and it was a company trip for him and the family went along for the 'ride'.  The girls seem to be happy and enjoying it.  (My son in law's name is Harvey)

I DETEST the new Target commercials on tv.  I can't tell one single word they are singing, and it sounds like something you would hear in the deep dark jungles of Africa - jeeble, jabber!

Church for me tonight - my happy place!

Turn your speakers up and go about your work, and listen to some encouraging and uplifting music and singing.... and have a great day.

  1. I'm glad you have a plan now and some people who will be helping. Not having to go out for the blood tests is great!

  2. Yes, it is good to have a plan, and I'm happy to hear he is getting a wheelchair. That will be a huge help. When I was on the coumadin, I hated going to the lab every 6 weeks. Now I'm taking Pradaxa, and it doesn't require the blood tests, and there are no vitamin K worries with it, so happy they could switch me over.

My grandmother didn't think anything was salty enough - she could empty the shaker on a plate of food and want more salt. Our taste buds do change as we age...

Nice that the family is having fun in Orlando! Great photos!

No bikes for rent in Lakeland, but we are very bike friendly and there are always bikers on the roads. A good way to get around, if your knees are working! ;)

  3. I love the movie "Harvey". :)
It looks like the girls are having a good time.
No, we don't have the bicycles -- very small town here -- but I think it's a good idea for the cities.
Sorry to hear about Jim but so glad you're both getting some home help. The doctor's don't think Jim's meds could be causing the change in his taste buds? There are so many that do.
You take care. You're still in my thoughts and prayers. ♥

  5. So sorry to hear not a lot can be done to help your Jim be more comfortable and doing better. Happy that you are going to have some help though and you won't have to take him in every month for blood work. We don't have the rental bikes in our area. I had never even heard of rental bikes until I read your blog. Still praying for you and Jim sweet Linda. Hugs
