CYBER MONDAY!

For those that missed brown Thursday, black Friday, you now have cyber Monday to shop til you drop.  Online shopping has become more and more popular, so retailers are taking advantage today with sales galore.  Me.....not hardly.  I do most of my shopping online, but not today.  You can have at it!

I heard a new remedy for preventing a winter cold over the weekend.  It is thought that chopped onion placed on a plate in a room and replaced daily, will both relieve symptoms and prevent the onset of colds in healthy individuals.

According to historical reports from those who survived the influenza epidemic of 1918 and from anecdotal accounts shared in Good Housekeeping, peeled or chopped onions are thought to prevent the onset of a cold and relieve cold symptoms when left in a room. This is because they are high in antiviral sulphuric compounds, as indicated by the strong odor and flavor they release.

I may give this one a try!

We are studying the book of Ecclesiastes, both in Sunday School and in Worship.  I honestly had not read the entire book at one time, but there is a wealth of good things to learn in that book.  If you haven't read and absorbed it, give it a try.  It applies to our daily lives.

It is amazing how God gives us just what we need, when we need it.  If you read verses 7:1-4, you will think it is contradictory to what we live today, but it honestly gives us something to think about.  Remember that I told you I was, just this week, at the graveside service for my dear friend that died and spent Thanksgiving in Heaven?  In Ecclesiastes 7:3, it says that "Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better."  As my Pastor pointed out, when things are all going well, you are happy and laughter is easy, you learn nothing.  It is in sad times that we stop to think and know what is really important.  The loss of a friend makes you realize that life is short at best and you should take every minute God gives you, to do something worthwhile.

I seem to always have a certain song that is my "favorite" so now I have a book of the Bible that is my current favorite too - Ecclesiastes!

We had such fun last night in worship.  We sang songs where the last word of each song, begins another.  No piano or organ, just raising voices in praise to Him.

  3. I've heard of that hint with the onions. I tried it but after a couple days, I got lazy and washed the dish. I'm not doing any online shopping today either. I heard yesterday on TV that when you find an item, you better go ahead and pay for it right away, because if you leave it in your shopping cart and continue to shop, it could be gone in a matter of seconds. Now Cyber Monday has become just like black Friday... tense. No thanks. Hope you have a good day.

  4. I dont know if I have gotten old and mistrust, or the lack of funds keeps me at home and off the net, but in any event, they wont be bothered by me today. On the onion thing, I may do the same, but thought I would at least give it a try! lol

  5. I've heard about the onion thing, but have never tried it. Keep us posted if you keep at it. I did a little shopping yesterday (Sunday) while we were out, but refuse to get caught up in Black Friday. I also did not shop on-line today. We just have gift cards left to purchase, so no pressure.

I like the verse you chose to share. It really is true. Sorrow does make the heart 'better', but it is not an easy lesson to learn.

  6. That is what we are studying in SS and worship....in Ecc. 7.....it is a hard thing to absorb, but thinking about it, it is so true. We never learn much from laughter, but oh but do we learn in sadness and sorrow. Have a good day my friend.
