Thanksgiving Week!

It is funny, we all look forward to Thanksgiving and then we dread all the work that comes with getting ready for it.  So, which is it.....thankful or not really?

I am so blessed that I get to be with all of my family, yet since my children have been grown, whether married or not, they do it all.  We have the same menu every year (at their request) and they all have their specialities that they cook.  They even clean up after the meal.

This year we are having three extra at our table(s).  All three of these guys have no family close by.  One is a cousin whose Mom lives in New Hampshire and his Dad lives in Alabama and they don't speak; the other is a life long friend, who just buried his Dad last week and has no relationship with his Mom, and the third is a guy that works with my daughter in law.  Our doors and our tables are always open to anyone....the more the merrier!

We are also celebrating my granddaughter's 11th birthday.  She said, "can we put a candle in the middle of the chocolate pie", and we told her we sure can!!!
Then the children in the family will draw names this year for Christmas gifts, so we will also be doing that on Thanksgiving Day.

Day #19, I am thankful for every day that God gives me to be on His earth, and pray I can make a difference.

The Pastor's message last night was "Occupy until He comes"!

We have financial problems, energy independence problems, enemies within our country, social issues, and moral problems.

We need to be the light and salt, and several things we need to do are:

1)Pray for our Pastors daily.  He has a harder job than most people give him credit for.
2)Make church the big deal it deserves to be.
3)Make the Bible THE BOOK.  Most read the newspaper more than the Bible.
4)Win souls. (God blesses obedience)
5)Live right.  We have blended in, rather than standing firm.
6)Attend to our families with love, loyalty and labor.

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

  1. I fixed it this year, Linda. We are going out for Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing to cook and no mess to clean up! I really, really miss the big family Thanksgivings, though. You are so blessed to still have that!! We are too spread out now (and have been for years). We also used to invite anyone who wasn't going 'home' or didn't have someone to cook for them. Those have all been taken care of now, too.

Drawing names is a great way to handle gifts for so many people!! Makes it more fun, I think. Less worry, and less expense.

    Wishing you a good Monday!

  2. I enjoy the time with our family on Thanksgiving but the older I get the more it seems like too much work. We do potluck style and my girls always bring lots of food, but I'm still responsible for the turkey, potatoes and vegetables. So I'm in the middle of dread and fun. What a blessing you are for those gentlemen with no families. They will enjoy it. We're not sure what we're going to do about the Christmas gifts yet but drawing names has always been a possibility. Hope you have a great day.
