ALL'S CALM!

It is a quiet Saturday morning and for that, I am thankful.  I had a good night's rest and Jim is still snoozing!  He has been sleeping anywhere from 10-12 hours lately.  After his workout with the physical therapist, he is worn out.

We did manage to go to eat a burger at Five Guys (his favorite, not mine) where he gets mushrooms, bell peppers, A-1 sauce, onions, and whatever else they can get on one bun.  Me, mustard, cheese and tomato, lol.  I am the plain jane when it comes to adding odd things.  If you have ever eaten at a Five Guys, you know the fries are good and you can eat all the roasted peanuts you can hold.  We had a small order of fries and it filled the bottom of the sack!  One thing I did like, that I have never seen at any other fast food place, was the Powerade that was available at the drink machines.
By the time we drove back home and he checked on the garden (from inside the car), he was ready to hit the hay!

Do you have plans for the 4th of July?  Cooking out?  Leaving for vacation?  All of our kids and grand kids will come here and we will cook out together.  My son and daughter in law are putting in a swimming pool, so am sure the young ones will want to be playing in that.  It isn't an in-ground or even a big above ground, just 3 feet deep but big around and big enough to get cool and play in when they want to.  And they are making a base of sand so the kids can play in the sandbox if they don,t want to swim.

I got the following from "Our Daily Bread" and it applies to me for sure...............

"In a popular children’s book, Winnie the Pooh watches Kanga bound away. I wish I could jump like that, he thinks. Some can and some can’t. That’s how it is.
We see younger or more able men and women doing extraordinary things that we cannot do. They can; we can’t. That’s how it is. It’s easy to feel useless when we can’t do the things we were once capable of doing.
It’s true that we may not be able to “jump” like we once did, but we can love and we can pray. These are the works that time and experience have prepared us to do well.
Love is the very best gift we have to give to God and to others. It is no small matter, for love is the means by which we fulfill our whole duty to God and our neighbor.
And we can pray.  Our prayers are a powerful force in the universe!
Love and prayer are mighty works indeed, the mightiest works for any of us."
 "They shall still bear fruit in old age;
they shall be fresh and flourishing."

  1. It's frustrating to get old because I still 'want' to do those things again. But with age comes wisdom. That's a good thing.

This is the first year that we don't have any plans for the 4th. We used to have cook-outs, a big party in the backyard to celebrate our #2 grandson's birthday then at dusk we'd walk down to the park to watch the fireworks. But we're not doing any of that this year, which makes me sad.

I've never heard of Five Guys. The picture of that burger doesn't even look appetizing. I'm like you... the most I ever put on mine is lettuce, tomato, onions and mayo.

Hope you have a good day. ♥

  2. In this age getting older is no fun...only for people with money. At the villages in Florida they seem to have a very good time being out and about...and I am sure there are other such places if one could afford to live there.

I am still looking for someone who wants to do something on the 4th. Seems all my friends are doing family thing. Maybe that is what I need to do too.

    Have a great day!

  4. Love the Psalm, Linda! Amen!

We are having a cook-out here, and have invited our friend, Helen, to join all of us. Just the traditional burgers, potato salad, watermelon... etc. Our fireworks are the night before, so we will probably go downtown for that, if everyone is up for it.

We have Five Guys here. We don't go often, but they do have good burgers and fries, for sure! I like to get lots of stuff on mine, too, and usually can't get my mouth around it! LOL

    Wishing you a good weekend!

  5. An inspirational an uplifting blogpost, Linda.
You have a gift of writing. I thank you for sharing it with me.
We don't have plans for the 4th.
We will be with family. That is enough for me.
Love to you and Jim. Continued prayers for strength for him and for you, my friend.
    Hugs and love,
    Jackie
