From what I am hearing on the news, the part of our great country that has been sweltering, is finally beginning to cool off, and I know my blog friends are happy about that. July and August are always that way for us in Tennessee, so we just stay inside and keep cool. I think the heat alone isn't so bad, but the humidity that goes with it, smothers.
I received another postcard yesterday from the 'Postcrossing' site. It is from someone in Charleston, S.C.
It is from a woman who says she is very active in her church, loves to travel and enjoys receiving the postcards as much as I do. She has been to Chattanooga and I have been to Charleston, so we had several things in common. If you have ever been there, you know that there are many beautiful churches, some very old and ornate, and lots of different ones. This is the French Huguenot Church, which was the first Gothic Revival building constructed in Charleston, and today it is the only independent Huguenot Church in America. (The Huguenots were French Protestants most of whom eventually came to follow the teachings of John Calvin, and who, due to religious persecution, were forced to flee France to other countries in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Some remained, practicing their Faith in secret.)
My daughter in law seemed to think the interview for a new job went well, as they want her to start this coming Monday. She told them she had to come home and discuss it with her husband and would let them know. It has some good prospects for advancement, but it also has some draw-backs, so that is what they will have to deal with and she will let them know Monday morning.
I picked up my grandson for them and he and I had a fun afternoon, playing. He is growing up so fast, and it is this time I had better appreciate and enjoy.
He was at our Aquarium!
Jim didn't want me to cook after playing with Jesse all afternoon (thank you Lord, and thank you Jim), and suggested we go out for a burger. You KNOW anything where I don't have to cook suits me just fine, so we ended up with take out from McDonald's and we aren't particularly fond of it, but it is close to home!
No plans for us this weekend, how about you?
Yes, I'm glad to get this cool down period. ** I hope your DIL can work things out with the new job. The old saying.... "If it's meant to be... things will work out." ** Your grandson is so cute. Us grandmothers have to cherish each moment we get with them because time goes too fast, they grow up, and they stop coming to see us. ** McDonald's can be a 'treat', if you can call it that, but only occasionally. I do like the fish sandwich and I get a craving for their french fries. ** I'm glad you got a new post card. That's interesting about the church. ** Enjoy your Saturday. ♥
ReplyDeleteIt's finally cooler here and I'm loving it. It's my weekend to work so we have no other plans. I love the postcard. Charleston is a beautiful city!
ReplyDeleteWell, no cooler in Florida, but it is "normal" for us in July, so we can't really complain. We have rain again this afternoon, but again, that is normal for us in July. It usually rains every afternoon for at least 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteJesse is such a cute little guy, and I know he brings you so much joy! He is growing up fast, though. Time flies by.
Hope the job works out for your DIL. Like Carol said, if it's meant to be, it will.
Joe and I went to Steak 'n Shake last night for a burger and fries. It is actually closer to us than McDonalds. Makes a nice treat now and then.
Charleston, SC is a lovely city. I've been there a couple of times. Not sure it is as nice as Chattanooga, though!
I love your blog and your sense of humor. It is not getting cooler here! sandie
ReplyDeleteWe did get a little cool down but the cool down was brought in by really severe storms. We lost our power Friday night and it didn't come back on until Sunday evening. I can'get over how much your grandson has grown..he is such a cutie! That is great news about your daughter's job interview!
