PRE-FALL!

My title picture today is of a dogwood tree in my daughter's front yard.  She lives on one of the mountains that surrounds Chattanooga, and as I drove up yesterday, I noticed the leaves on the dogwood trees were turning pink.  They are the first trees in this area to have their leaves change in fall.  The temperature of course is cooler higher up, so it stands to reason they would be having color already.

Speaking of my daughter, she had invited me to lunch and instead of a quick sandwich, she had prepared chicken pasta, lima beans, mashed potatoes and a lovely green salad with pecans, iced tea and cookies.  I was surprised and it was sure a good 'getaway' for me.  Good conversation and good food = blessed.

A blog that I follow had the most interesting entry yesterday.  She had a bowl with all colored balls or globes in it and she said they were friendship balls or ornaments.  I think originally they were to be ornaments on a Christmas tree, but I liked her idea of them being friendship balls.  I like ideas that are different and I think I am going to start a tradition, using them too.  I have a stained glass plate that was given to me from a dear friend.  It has all colors in it, so I will use it to display any that I may get or until I give one away.  Here is the link if you might be interested too. http://www.kugelhouse.com/

Another new thing in my life is a magazine that I just subscribed to - "GOOD OLD DAYS".  I received my first issue yesterday and it brought back many memories. There are stories, pictures, and just about anything when life was worth living, fun, and seemingly uncomplicated.

One article was entitled "Things My Parents Used to Say".  A woman said her family was 'very conscientious' about their teeth.  Her Mom used to say, 'be true to your teeth or they will be false to you'.  Her Mom also said, 'they will be like the stars and come out at night'.

I also liked the weight loss tips!  Don't eat standing up or in front of the tv.  Always begin diet or exercise program on Monday.  You will lose more than if you start later in the week.  The all time favorite was that watching a really scary movie for 90 minutes burns as many calories as walking for 30 minutes.  Lift weights while you watch and scare those extra pounds away.  Boo!

I am wishing you and yours a wonderful 'fallish' weekend!  We need to enjoy these cooler days before the heat  returns and true fall and winter are upon us.

  1. I love Dogwoods!! They are so pretty. I am glad you had a good time with your daughter. I unfort. do not have much of a relationship with my own mother & father. Their choice, long story. Perhaps that is why I am a different kind of parent, I don't know. Thanks for making me smile. Blessings P.S. I love the middle "ball", so pretty.

    1. How in the world did you get from the deep south to a small town in NY? I looked it up this morning, and it looks like a beautiful little town. I looked at the site for the ornaments and there were so many beautiful ones there. Where did your son decide to go to college? Happy Saturday!

  2. How many times I have ended up with a bruised chin from pulling up the blanket...

Those balls are lovely, would be great hanging in a window to catch the light.

THat was awesome to have such a wonderful lunch like that.
Will have to check out that mag, looks interesting.

I love Fall and the air here in Ga is so cool, I have the doors open and the smells of the trees and such are wafting through the house. YOUR dogwood pic is lovely in your header.

  3. Your page is beautiful day. I love the fall (sorry -- 'pre-fall') picture of the dogwoods. We've had those pre-fall temperatures lately but next week is going to be back in the 90's. Summer will return. ** Daughters are such a blessing, and when they go out of their way to do things for their mothers, we know we did a good job of making her the woman she is now. I'm glad you had a good time with your daughter. ** The colorful balls are so pretty. That's a good idea of friendship balls. ** I had to laugh at your last little graphic. I did that last night and felt so stupid. I pulled so hard I was sure I'd have a bruise this morning. lol
You have a great day. ♥

  5. The dogwood is so pretty! We are a long way from our Fall, here in Florida. Still hot and steamy. Sigh.

The decorative glass balls are beautiful, and I did visit the page you linked. I have several globes, hand-blown by a local artist, Susan Gott. I am afraid the cats will decide they are toys, so they are put away.

Your lunch get-away sounds like it was just what you needed, and how nice of your daughter to do something so special for you! Hope you are having a good Saturday, Linda!

  6. That's a good picture of the dogwood. Ours are still green but we're much further south. It's kinda cool here too in Southeast Georgia. Love it! I can't wait for Fall.
