Church day for us, and of course I always look forward to that.  Sad to say, a lot of churches look like this..............

Jim didn't fish but did enjoy being outside in the sunshine and visiting with the guys there.

Do you have traditional or contemporary worship service?  We have traditional with the hymns of old.  We do not have a band, but do have organ, piano, and a member plays the trumpet for certain songs.

OR

So many churches these days are having contemporary services to entice younger people to come to church.  Some don't enjoy the quiet, traditional services.

Tell me about your worship service.

  1. Good Morning Linda! Ours is tradtional, like yours. When we were in Alabama, it was more contempory. I really don't have a prefrence to either one, prob. though, more on the lines of tradtional. Have a great Sunday. Blessings

  2. Hello Linda. Our church has a more contemporary service at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday evening. It draws a younger crowd, and there is a 'band' with contemporary music. We NEVER attend that one! Joe and I both prefer the traditional service. Having grown up in the Methodist church, I do miss the familiar-to-me hymns that are rarely heard in the Catholic church. When we do have one of them, I always smile and whisper to Joe -- "A good Methodist hymn!" I have already written down the 'Methodist' hymns I want sung at my funeral some day!!

It's nice that Jim got out yesterday, even if he didn't fish. I'm sure it was good for him.

    Enjoy a blessed day!!

  3. I had a hard time when I first heard about churches actually having a Starbucks under the same roof as their sanctuary. The church we recently started attending is in between the 2 choices but it's more traditional. The songs are mostly modern with singers and musicians... a piano, an elect. keyboard, a guitar and a drum. They can get loud at times, but the songs for worship are soft and beautiful. Then Pastor's service itself is more traditional.
    Have a good day Linda.

  4. We are a Southern Baptist church, and we have a traditional service. But, I must add that our worship director mixes the older songs, the songs from a decade or so also...and then the newer praise songs into our worship service. We have a congregation that is made up of older people, middle aged people and young people...and all need to feel comfortable with the songs that are sung. So, I'm thankful that she takes all of the congregational members into consideration as she prays about the songs to choose for each service.
We have a Praise Team on the platform with her...a drummer, a couple of guitarists, and a pianist. I used to be the keyboardist (for 30+ years) but I retired in April.
Our worship leader is a smart lady (and is also a physician's assistant as her full-time job.) We are blessed to have her. Thank you for asking.
    Hugs and love,
    Jackie

    1. It is interesting to know how others worship. Even though things are changing all around us, we can still worship our Lord in different ways.
