DECEMBER 7, 1941- a date which will live in infamy............

I was just weeks old when this happened.  Were you born yet?  I heard all about it however from my family as I grew up.  I had an uncle that was in the Army at that time, so he would tell us about it from time to time.

I have received several postcards since I last posted some, and these are just a few.............when I made my profile for 'Postcrossing', I put that I enjoyed seeing different churches and many of the cards I have received are of churches in these countries.  I will say that in the old country/world, their churches were much more ornate than the ones I have visited in the USA.

Ukraine, Bavaria, Russia and Germany

We did go to Aryn's game, and sad to say, they lost.  She however, scored 19 points, had 6 steals and many assists.  I hate to brag, but being a grandmother, I can.  If she wasn't playing on that team, they would have no points at all.  She has been playing basketball since she was 4 years old and several colleges have been following her for two years.

Above, she is in white, and that is her high school team.

This picture is of her on her travel team, The Tennessee XTreme

Did you ever have the aluminum Christmas tree?  If so, do you remember the color wheel?  We had one and as a child I thought it was so 'kool'!

Praying for all my friends that have been hit with the awful snow/ice storms.  We have heavy rain so far, but if the temp should drop, we would have some problems too.  We in the south, are never ready and honestly don't know how to handle that much snow.

  3. What pretty postcards! We had the aluminum tree for a while when I was a kid, but didn't have the color wheel...we put lights on it.

  4. I wasn't born until 5 yrs. later. My father was drafted the next year, 1942 and discharged in early 1946. I was born that Dec.
Your postcards are pretty. The churches are beautiful. So different from the 'store-front' churches which we have several around here.
Sorry Aryn's team lost but it sounds like she's still playing her heart out for them.
We had one of those silver trees. My mother liked it for a short time, then got rid of it.
We got just a bit of snow from this storm, less than an inch, nothing major. It is hard on those in the south that isn't used to it. We have lots of family in TX and they're having a hard time with the ice. It's awful.
You have a good day, Linda.

  5. I'm ashamed to say, I temporarily forgot this was Pearl Harbor Day. I was born at the tail-end of the Baby Boomer generation in 1956. My adopted father served in World War II. He seldom talked about it but he saw a lot of scary action. The war made him a cruel, hard man.

We also had a aluminum Christmas tree with the color wheel. I have a photo of me from the early '70s sitting next to it with my new braces glistening in the lights. I did it as a joke because my step-mom said my braces looked like a Christmas tree (she was only joking). I'm such a ham. [giggle]

Congrats to Aryn! That girl is going places with her sports.

    God bless. ~:)

  6. I wasn't born until 1960, but I've heard about it all my life. I would think that it may compare to the way we felt on 9/11.
Good for Aryn - sorry she lost though.
I've never seen the color wheel for the tree either, but I bet kids just loved it!

  7. I wasn't born yet, but those of us who grew up in the 50s learned about it in school. Not sure the kids do these days, which is sad.

You have received so many beautiful post cards!! The old cathedrals are so ornate, I wonder how they were built back then. Breathtaking.

Sorry about Aryn's team, but she continues to shine. I just know she will have a full-ride scholarship for college. She is a very talented athlete. Brag away!! I love hearing about your grandchildren!
