Have you ever heard the expression 'alive and kickin'? Well, I am alive, but definitely not 'kickin'. I praise the Lord that I was able to sleep all night, so hopefully am caught up and rest will help the pain.
Sciatic nerve pain, also known as sciatica, is a painful condition that is most commonly indicated by pain that radiates through the leg. Sciatica can be caused by an injury, but sometimes this frustrating condition can be traced to the presence of a degenerative spine condition in the lumbar spine in the lower back. When the sciatic nerve becomes compressed in the spinal column, the regular function of the sciatic nerve is interfered with and sciatic nerve pain is experienced.
Beginning in the spinal column in the lower back and culminating in the feet, this vital nerve is responsible for innervating many of the muscle groups in the lower body. When the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or compressed, regular function of the nerve is interfered with, which can lead to muscle weakness, numbness or tingling, and significant leg and back pain.
I don't mean to gross you out, but above is a picture of the sciatic nerve and the direction it goes. Thus back pain, and leg pain.
I can take pain medicine, but that is just a 'bandaid' and I don't function well on those, so when the pain begins, the only way I can get relief is to have an epidural.....an injection of a steroid in my lower spine. I have had so many now, I cant even count, but I will avoid spine surgery until I cant move at all. This 'chicken' has to be put to sleep to have one. I tried it without once, and only once and will not do that again! lol
So, I feel better this morning, but the pain is always there. On a happy note...........
Love Maxine, so right this is, lol. Not grossing me out. My husband has deg. disc and he has this problem too. It is very unnerving (no pun intended) to say the least. Hope you feel better. Keeping you in prayer.
ReplyDeleteLinda, what does your hubby do when the pain is so severe?
DeleteI agree with Maxine, for sure. I have been the same size for around 20 years now (and some of my clothes are that old!). I know I need to lose weight, but it is not easy, and definitely not fun!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some good sleep, Linda, and hope they can get you in for another shot soon. My knees are barking at me again, and I'm looking forward to more cortisone, too.
I am praying that you can get some relief soon from this pain you are going through. I hope the doctor can get you in soon for an epidural! I couldn't agree more with Maxine! My fat and age are best friends..maybe even soul mates..haha. Have a great week, Linda..I will keep you in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteMy mother had this condition and a chiropractor really helped her with it. Don't know if you have tried that route. I hope you can get some relief to your pain. Enjoy the day as best you can!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I hope you find some relief soon...my mom has something similar...she gets shots that so far have helped a lot.
ReplyDeletePrayers, my friend!
Praying relief over your pain. I have no advice, just prayers. Thanks for visiting my blog....and leaving your sweet comment. It's nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI love your header and that Maxine comic. I'm afraid my body and my fat are too good of friends.
ReplyDeleteGlad you slept well and praying about that sciatica.
I can't read the small print, so forgive me if I get this wrong, but I think it says you're in pain? I hope that's not the case. Prayers from here that you are both well and safe. God bless. ~:)
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon is GREAT!!!! I have had mild sciatica. I don't want to imagine dealing with it as bad as it can get. I really hate that you are having to endure this. You are too young and have too many years ahead to deal with such problems. Retirement years are supposed to be reward years for working so long - - - not punishment for stopping!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad that you're in pain. Here's to hoping it eases up real soon!!
ReplyDeletePray relief comes to you soon sweet Linda. Maxine hit that nail on the head for sure. : ) Love Maxine, she is a mess and so funny. Hugs and blessings!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so sorry you're struggling with this! I had problems during one of my pregnancies. It can be so painful. I hope you heal soon.
ReplyDeleteI've had several surgeries, but always say no to back surgery, and believe me, I have plenty of pain!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has really suffered with his sciatic nerve this week, he couldn't even walk on Sunday. He's quite a bit better now. As a fireman he kicked in plenty of doors and that hip has always given him trouble. I"m glad to see you are doing a bit better, will pray for you!
I have the same thing, Linda. Chiropractic and massage therapy work wonders.
