WINTER WONDERLAND????

27 States under warning of severe snow and ice storms.  The most unusual to me is that Destin, Fla. closed their schools for this morning, last night.  I have friends in lower Georgia and Alabama, and I am sure they are confused and amazed at the forecast.

Our high is to be 29 and that would be a heat wave to some places across the US.  Stay safe and warm, wherever you are.

The Sunday School class meeting was so nice.  I worship with some really good cooks!  Fried chicken, fried okra, creamed corn, jello salad, green beans, cornbread, and if that wasn't enough, we had pound cake, pecan pie and chocolate pie!!  You say - that is a southern meal, and you would be correct!

We did manage to get to Aryn's basketball game, although major work on our freeways caused us to have to take a detour and it took us over an hour to get to the school.  Normally, we can get there in 20 minutes.  But the trip was worth it.  Again, her team was behind much of the game, until the final minute and it seemed they came alive and won it by 1 point again.  She scored 19 points, and had 6 steals. We laugh at her steals because she is so little compared to most of the girls on the other teams.  Her team is made up of 2 seniors and all the others are freshmen and sophomore girls.

It was a fun night however, as the other team is from a school in the valley and they had a big student section that came, wearing cameo and farmer hats and boots.  Some of the kids had a piece of straw in their mouths.  They were portraying 'rednecks'.  This article was in our newspaper:

"Great wins last night for both the Lady and Men's Signal Mountain Eagle teams! Lots of great energy in the gym with large student sections from both schools battling it out to be the most "Redneck".......who won that game? Signal or Sequatchie?"  Someone from Signal posted this:  "it would've been much more ironic if Sequatchie had tried to dress preppy but I guess they wanted to wear something they already owned lol" There is another game tonight, but it is an away game and with the bad weather, we wont go to this one.

Today is my yearly 'eye exam', babysitting when school is out.

  6. That header shot is too funny, Linda! Glad you made it to Aryn's game, and that they won! Folks are asking me if we have snow....we are 10 hours from Destin, and four hours from the FL/GA border. I heard that Tampa had snow years, and years ago, but in the 25 years we have been here, I've not seen a flake. If it did snow, it wouldn't stick. It is never freezing long enough to freeze the ground - only tropical plants.

The Sunday School lunch sounds SO good. Nothing like Southern comfort food!!

  7. Love you background, are those two in the header someone you know? Like grandchildren? Must really be cold there. LOL We've been without cable, internet and phones, they just came back on about11:15am. Our Granddaughter's school closed for the day. It is now almost noon and temp it still -3. I have no idea what the windchill factor is, the wind has quieted down. Thanks for your visit this morning. I try to post a few ahead, like now, I have to stop all ready and get the stew for supper started, it all goes in the oven at one time and slowly bakes for about 6 hours.
