SOUTHERN, THRU AND THRU!!!

My title picture tells it all, and tells the truth.  I read and re-read and every single thing listed is southern to a 'T'!  Everyone that doesn't live in the south,  thinks all we say is 'ya'll', but 'bless your heart' is my favorite.  It comes natural and just flows out of my mouth.  I will bless your heart if something is wrong, or if something is right or good.  I will bless your heart if you give me a gift or make a nice remark.  It is just natural.

We do seem to always have sweet tea made and ready for anyone that visits or for the next meal.

Everything is monogrammed, and children's clothes that are smocked are very special and good for the photographer's pictures, that we have made for Grandma and Grandpa.

When a new person moves into the neighborhood, we bake a pie or a cake or anything and take to their house, introduce ourselves and welcome them to the neighborhood.  Of course we have our string of pearls on when we visit!
A 'thank you note' is just manners.  My daughters have already taught their children to write thank you notes.....for birthday gifts, for attending their special activities, etc.
My title picture doesn't mention 'Yes mam and No mam' or 'Yes Sir and No Sir', but you will hear it said a lot more in the south.  Some of the time, when addressing an adult, a child is allowed to say, 'Miss Linda or Mr. Jim', never calling them by just their first name.

Every area of the south has their special words or phrases that's for sure, but it is definitely a slower pace of life and 'gushy' for sure.

***********

I was surfing the net last night because I could not go to sleep.  I found something that I think I may try.
It was said that one lady did this...never spent a $5.00 bill but saved it instead. In two years she had nearly $12,000!  WOW!  It would certainly be worth a try.  I have had a coin jar for several years now and it mounts up quickly, so maybe the $5.00 jar would too.

Well, we are due rain, rain and more rain right through the 4th of July holiday, so I will batten down the hatches and ride it out.  I wish you a good Wednesday and leave you with 'bless your heart!'

  1. I've believed for years that I was born too far north, that I should be in the south. So many of the things you mentioned are natural for me... the phrases, the tea, etc. etc. One thing I don't hear up north is the politeness in the children. That always amazes me, when my brother comes up with his grandchildren. It's always "yes mam". The children up north here... I want to wash their mouths out with soap. Horrible.
I like the idea of the $5 jar. I wonder if I can talk hubby into doing it, since his wallet is the only one with cash in it now that I'm not working. I'm going to try it.
I hope you have a good holiday, even tho' it's raining out, you can kick back with a good book and rest. R&R... as the military calls it (rest and recoup). Take care.

  4. Great blog. Like Carol, many of those things have always been a natural for me, but unfortunately, I don't see good manners in children very often anymore. The new neighbor children do address me as Mrs. Norton which is something I haven't heard for quite a while...they're from CO.

  5. My sister and I were talking the other about how many times we say "Bless Your Heart". I love it that I was born in the south and live in the south now. I have lived other places but love the south best of all. What a wonderful blog this is and all the red, white and blue looks so nice. I am going to take a break from the computer and go fix some sweet tea I noticed this morning the container was getting pretty low. Happy 4th of July sweet Linda. Hugs
