One step forward and two steps backward....ever heard that expression?

The pain medicine helped with the pain, but made me deathly sick and spent most of the day yesterday throwing up!  Sorry if that is more information than you needed, but it happened.  I didn't take another pain pill all day, but finally about 8 last night, I got some Zofran and took it, along with a pain pill and slept all night.  Goodness, will this never end?

Hoping today will be a better day.  I am hoping to make it to church tomorrow, but will wait and see.

Aryn's team played last night, but she didn't get to play. They lost.  I always hated watching a one man team play, but sometimes it just comes to that.  She can play next Tuesday, so here's hoping she is able to help the team get back on the winning side.

Tomorrow is the Epiphany - a Christian festival, observed on January 6, commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi; Twelfth-day.

King Cake—also called Kings' Cake, Gateau des Rois, Cake of Kings, or Twelfth Night Cake—is served from the feast of the Epiphany through Mardi Gras. Traditionally, a trinket is baked inside. In the U.S., the most common trinket is a small plastic baby to represent the baby Jesus. In European countries, the traditional trinket is a bean.

In the recipe below, you may swirl molasses cake batter with white cake batter to make a marble cake, or make the molasses cake alone.
Yield: 9-inch square cake

Cake recipe----

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
Mix molasses, baking soda, and butter in a large bowl. Add salt, ginger, and boiling water. Stir well and gradually blend in the flour. Stir until smooth. Pour into a buttered and floured 8- or 9-inch square cake pan (if preparing marble cake, use a 9 x 13-inch pan and drop spoonfuls of each batter in alternate layers). Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) for about 30 minutes (45 minutes for the marble cake), or until cake tests done.

Go with God!

  3. I'm sorry the pain meds made you so sick, but glad to hear you got a good night's rest. Love your photo!! Nice to see your face. Hope you can make it to church tomorrow. We did not go. Joe is just coughing too much. I hate to sit in church and listen to people around me coughing... Our old church used to sell King Cakes after Mass. I think it was a fund raiser for the youth. It's been awhile since I had it, though. A good tradition. Your recipe seems fairly easy. Sure hope you feel better tomorrow, Linda! Love & hugs.
