HAPPY 4TH!


Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, etc......................................."

When you were in high school, did you have to memorize this?  I vaguely remember that we did or at least part of it, because when I re-read, it all came back to me.  Do we still have the same rights today?

At church last night, we sang some of the patriotic songs and I got a special blessing. A row of teenagers sat behind me, and they raised their voices and they blended beautifully.  America is still 'the Beautiful' to me!

Due to rain, rain, and more rain, we cancelled our 'get together' today and will do it another time when it is dry and we can sit outside, eat and enjoy the fireworks.  My son, however, is still cooking and is bringing Jim and me a plate.  I am making the Fiesta Bubble Bread and will share with him and his family and friends.  I suspect some homemade ice cream will be on the menu too!

I wish for you a day to remember and thank God for the wonderful nation we live in, and even with all the problems, we are still #1.

  2. Yes, we had to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution too. I know the kids today don't have to do that. Do they even know what it is? That's too sad.
    We do live in a great country and we pray daily that God will continue to bless us and make His presence known to all.

  7. Yes, we also had to memorize the preamble. I bet kids today don't have to. Love the beautiful red, white & blue, Linda. Makes my heart swell with pride! Glad you got treated to a good meal today, but sorry the weather didn't cooperate for your get-together. Love & hugs.

  9. I most certainly believe those rights are being threatened more and more everyday, but like you, I'm still proud of my country if nothing else I'm proud of what she was and what I think could be again.
