WEATHER!

Don't know what it is doing in your 'neck of the woods', but here in mine it is raining, storming, and we had heavy, hard thunder and constant lightning last night and until the wee hours of the morning!  The lightning was so severe, I got up a couple of times to look out the window, searching for downed trees, etc.  So far this morning, it is just the leftover rain.

Speaking of weather, I subscribe to the Old Farmer's Almanac and the prediction for this winter doesn't sound too promising, but we have to remember, it will be winter and that doesn't make for good sun-bathing or picnics!  Here are a few of their predictions:

  • If the first week in August is unusually warm, the winter will be white and long.  It was!
  • When the down of a dandelion contracts, it is a sign of rain.
  • When spiders build new webs, the weather will be clear.
  • Lightning in summer indicates good, healthy weather.
  • The sunflower raising its head indicates rain.
  • A dream of gardens foretells great joy.
  • If watercress beds steam on a summer evening, the next day will be hot.
  • Listen for the sound of the first cicadas. The first frost of the year will occur about 3 months later.
  • An open anthill indicates good weather; a closed one, an approaching storm.
  • A spider on your wedding gown brings good luck.
  • Dust rising in dry weather is a sign of an approaching change. In most of the United States, this winter is shaping up to be a rough one. We forecast below-normal temperatures and above-normal snowfall during most of the winter. Black clouds in the north in winter, indicates approaching snow.

Our plans for today include a trip to the Coumadin clinic for Jim and his physical therapy before that.

I pray you have a wonderful day, and if it is raining where you are, try to stay dry!

  1. It stormed here last night (boy did it!). YOu know, the cicadas have been going on for about week now. I have been told by my sil that it will be a bad, cold, snowy winter. The nights are cool (45*) and the days around 70. It looks to be a stormy day, the clouds have rolled back in. Prayers for you and your husband, please keep us updated. Blrssings

  2. The rain has abated here; we had our share this summer. It rained all of June and July. I'm thankful for a drier August.
Sending you wishes for a wonderful day right back!!

  3. Nights like that can be frightening, for sure. Hope it dries up a bit for you today, since you and Jim will need to be out. We don't worry about snow, down here in central Florida, but I feel for everyone up north when the snow starts falling. I don't care to ever see it in person again! The Old Farmers' Almanac has a good track record for being correct in its predictions. I always enjoy the wisdom found within, too! Thanks for sharing! Love & hugs.

  4. It rained all day yesterday and was supposes to be nice today - however, it's getting dark and cloudy. Our high for the day was only 71, pretty low for August!
I really enjoyed your weather remarks.

  5. Hum,here in the south we would welcome snow, we seldom see it so we like it. Wonder if the FA predictions are just for people in the north?

We have had so much rain this year, so not like the south, so I wonder if we will see some snow.

GOD bless and keep you all safe.

  6. Trying to catch up on some blogs... those types of storms are scary. I hate that lightning. ** The Almanac tid-bits are always interesting. The spiders are still building new webs because I ran into one. And the cicadas have come and gone which puts our first frost around the last of Oct. That's about right. Our weather this week? I can sum it up in one word --- chilly! It's cold enough to wear a sweatshirt. This is crazy.
You have a good day. ♥
