HARVEST/CANNING SEASON

Canning season has begun around here.  You find your leftover jars from last year, or those you have emptied throughout the year, wash and wash again.  New 'flats' will have to be bought, and then find enough rings to seal them.

Jim used to love this time of year and was so good to do it for our family.  Me.....I enjoyed cleaning up after him! lol I was not reared in the country or anywhere that people canned.  This city girl didn't even know how or what to do, but he did thank goodness.

Above you can see what can be or has been done with some leftover Mason jars! Those I might be able to accomplish.  Do you or have you ever canned things?

Speaking of Jim, he is really bad this morning.  When he said to me, "this is the end Linda", I knew he was feeling down and out, as the old folks used to say.  I asked if it was the pain in his back or just overall, and that is when he made the remark.  He said he slept good, it wasn't that.....just very low.  I ask again if you will just say a quick prayer for him.

As untimely as it can possibly be, my sciatica and back are in severe pain and I was hoping to put off an epidural for another month, so that I could take Jim to all his appointments, but I may have to call my ortho doc to see about scheduling that for me. I can just take pain pills when it is bedtime, because they knock me for a loop in the daytime, and I have to be alert.

I am going to end this morning with a poem that I have pasted on my desk pull-out............

If the struggle you're facing is slowly replacing your hope with despair, or the process is long and  you're losing your song in the night,
You can be sure that the Lord has His hand on you, safe and secure,
He will never abandon you, you are His treasure
and He finds His pleasure in you.

  1. Those lights made from Mason jars are cute. I tried canning for a couple years long time ago. It was so much work. And I wasn't very successful. I ended up giving alll my stuff to my sister. She cans every year.
I love the little poem. We all need to be reminded of it from time to time. I will be praying for Jim. I'm also praying for you of course. I pray your pain subsides so you can do what you need to do. Keep smiling, my friend. Remember... you have people here that love you. ♥

  2. Well, that is an excellent poem to read, and read again.

I'm so sorry Jim is having a bad day, and that your pain has returned in force. Prayers offered for both of you.

Yes, I have canned. My mom canned and canned and canned, until we got a big chest freezer, then she froze and froze and froze all those yummy garden veggies. The last thing I did was years ago. I canned spaghetti sauce. Should do it again...but it can be frozen, too! :)

Prayers surrounding you both. Feel the love!

  7. Love the poem...thank you for that! Prayers for Jim. I love mason jars!! I use them to store all kinds of things around the house and pantry, as well as use them for drinking glasses and soap dispensers. I would love to have the lights you have pictured above. Hubby and I can applesauce...we were out looking for apples this week, but they weren't ready yet.
