THE LORD'S DAY

Lord, I praise You, for Your mercy is everlasting.
Help me to remember that every battle in
this life is Yours. The outcome belongs to
You because You are sovereign.
No matter what is in front of us, God is always behind us.
Good morning.  I hope you had a good night's sleep/rest and are ready to attend your church of choice and/or worship our Lord in your way.  I haven't been sleeping this week but about 2 hours a night, but last night I managed to get in 6 hours, broken, but still sleep.  I woke at 4, and my mind was working overtime.  I prayed, I planned my day, I cooked, I cleaned out a closet, and did some sewing - all while laying in bed in the dark.
I cooked collard greens and turnips yesterday.  Bet several of you have never eaten or maybe have never heard of these greens, but they are my favorite.  I also cooked some baby carrots, corn on the cob and made Mexican cornbread.  For dessert, I made the Pecan Pie Cobbler that has been on Facebook this week and in one of my blogs.  It is worth the effort and I will make again.  Jim tagged it a 'keeper'!
My granddaughter Aryn was on her track team this year for the school and not only did her 4 person relay win the State, but the school as a whole did as well. She called yesterday to tell me her State ring had come in and sent me a picture.  I can't really see it, but the look on her face tells me all I need to know!

My University of Tennessee Vols lost to Georgia yesterday by a field goal in overtime. Georgia is ranked much, much higher and was supposed to beat us 'big time', so needless to say, we are very proud of our team's effort and my hat is off to the new coach, Butch Jones.  Hopefully, it is the beginning of a new era for UT's football team.

I wish everyone a good day.  Rain is headed our way
and then the temps are going to go downhill, but being the fall and winter person I am, I am ready for it!

  1. Good Morning Linda!!! What a dissapointment for the Vols! That was a good game and we were rooting for Tenn. We love collards, that is a "southern" thing, lol. Congrats to your granddaughter. Hope you get some rest, praying for you. Blessings

  2. I'm just checking in and then will be off to church. Sorry you haven't been sleeping well, maybe you can get a nap in today!
I've never had collard greens and I have to admit that they don't sound good to me. (:
    Your granddaughter looks very happy!

  3. Good morning, Linda... I saw a little bit of the game yesterday. Hubby watched it. Aryn looks very happy with her ring. That's great she and her team got rings. I like turnips but not collard greens. Maybe it was just the way they were cooked but I can't eat cooked spinach either. :( Hope you have a good day.

  4. I have never had those greens but would love to try them someday. I would love to know how you prepared them - send me a message in my guestbook if you wouldn't mind. I do have some rutabaga greens that I understand would be similar to the turnip greens.

I stole your graphic on friendship...I didn't think youd' mind.

  5. It's afternoon, now, so I hope your church service was uplifting, as always. We went to Mass last night, and are just so happy to be back at our old church. I have been wondering how that pecan cobbler tastes, so thanks for the good review! I do know collard greens, Linda, and like them if they aren't too greasy. I've eaten them a few times, and wished I hadn't because of too much pork fat. Turnips are delicious! Congrats to Aryn and the team/school. What an honor!! Love & hugs!!

    1. You are right Terri, the greens are greasy, but I guess I am just a hillbilly cause I love 'em! lol The cobbler is great, with just a few tweaks, but I would definitely cook it again.

  6. It rained here off and on all week-end. The Fireman's parade made it before it poured down. Our Granddaughter plays sax for the marching band. One thing you don't want to do is get the pads wet on that horn. I've never had collard greens, have eaten black eyed peas. Have a great week.
