WORRY!

I had a small melt-down the other day while talking to my son.  Of my three children, he is the most tender-hearted, sensitive one.  We were talking about his Dad and how I am handling it, etc.  I made the statement that it isn't the big things - cleaning, cooking, laundry, that bother me...it is the small things.  My son said, 'well Mom, you have always been a worrier, and I guess someone has to do it'.  That stayed in my mind.

I've spent an awful lot of time in my life worrying.  I've worried about bills and expenses, rising gas prices, insurance costs and endless taxes; am I rearing my children the way God would want me to?  I've even worried about having my home in perfect condition for "company," and within seconds of their arrival, the house is turned upside down and no one even notices.
I've worried about first impressions, political correctness, identity theft, hurting someone's feelings,  and contagious infections. In spite of all the worrying, I'm still alive and well, and all my bills are paid.  Over the span of my lifetime, worrying accounts for hours and hours of invaluable time that I'll never get back.
4 Reasons not to worry-----
1)  Worrying Accomplishes Absolutely Nothing.
2) Worrying is Not Good for Me.
3)  Worrying is the Opposite of Trusting God.
4)  Worrying Puts Your Focus in the Wrong Direction.

Matthew 6:31-33

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat?
or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:)
for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.

Lord, please help me to cling to your Word and let go of worry by trusting in You alone.

  1. Good post for me! I seem to be more of a worrier, the older I get. I'm really good at handing it over to God, but then I pick it up again. :)

    1. Mari, I do the very same. I pray every day to give it all to Him, and I do, thennnnnnnnnn, yep,by evening, I seem to take it back.

  2. Know that when you give it to Him, He is more than capable of handling it. He doesn't need or want for you to take it back.
Prayers for less worrying by you, my friend.
Don't worry that you worry, either.... :)) (I understand.)
    Hugs and love,

  3. I've always been the same way and it's gotten me nowhere. It's hard to lay our worries on the alter because we can easily take them back, trying to always be in control and doing things our way.
You have a good day, my friend. God bless you. ♥

  5. Linda, I used to worry a lot too, but Joe really set me straight about worrying. All the reasons you mentioned above are so true. Worry fixes nothing, and usually just makes things worse. One of Joe's favorite sayings is "Worry is interest paid in advance on trouble that rarely comes." He makes fun of me when I worry, and I really have stopped worrying. Give it to God, have faith. It really is freeing when you can offer it up and leave it behind. Takes time and practice, but you can get there, too! As for the house...you are right about no one noticing. I don't notice when I visit someone, and figure if someone notices cat hair or a little dust - so what. We have cats and dust falls 24/7. If I dust today, there will be dust tomorrow. I keep a clean house, but don't worry about it being "perfect" anymore. Love & hugs, Linda. I'm glad you have Murphy to lend a shoulder. Tears help, too.

  6. My mother-in-law is the same way, yet she is the most religious person I know. I have often wondered why Christians worry when we know how it will all turn out in the end. God is victorious, and sin is conquered. To die is gain and to live is Christ. Wishing you joy in your journey.
